24th December

Wishing you all a very merry christmas and a happy new year.

17th November

Last show of the season today, it was the NCPA lancashire branch foal and youngstock show at Barton EC. We took Drumochter in the M & M younstock class he was 1st and then went on to get reserve champion.
It was a lovely sunny day and when we got back from the show we went on a lovely hack. I rode our stallion Blairgowrie of Whitefield, and all credit to him because he hasn't been ridden for several years! He was an angel, didn't put a foot wrong, he loved it. That just goes to show the temperement of the highland pony dosn't it. He was accompanied by one of his wives Pabbeydene who also hasn't been out for a few years, she loved the hack too.

Valerock Celtic Blue at HOYS

28th October

We have been to the highland enthusiast's show today, I showed Drumochter and he was 2nd in the youngstock condition class and 3rd in the youngstock. Once again there was a really good turnout of ponies despite the horrible weather.
It was nice to see Mr and Mrs Richardson and Emma who where showing their pony Honey Rose of Mitchelland, she is a North Wells Summit daughter,
she did extremely well and won the mare class then went on to be the inhand champion. Well done to them.

3rd October

HOYS today, I can't believe that I have actually been, what a spectacular show I have been meaning to go for years and have never managed it for various reasons. This year I just had to go to see Valerock Celtic Blue, was proud as punch to see one of my gang qualify for HOYS. Emma and Pauline Billington his owners did as super job of producing him and he did a lovely show didn't put a foot wrong. Beautifully ridden by Emma, he wasn't placed in the top eleven but still what an achievement just to qualify. I am sure we will be hearing more from him next year with him only being a youngster. Well done to them for all the hard work that they have put in for this prestigous show.

6th September

Valerock Mountain Ash (Bruce) has gone to his new home in the south with Kathryn Boorman. We delivered Bruce yesterday, he has got a super new home with Kathryn. Bruce was brilliant in the lorry, I had to go and keep having a look to see if he was ok because he was so quiet. It took us five and a half hours to get to Slough and Bruce took it all in his stride. Kathryn has kindly emailed me some piccies of Bruce with his new friend Robin. Wishing them all the best for the future.

28th August

We have been up to the lakes today to pick up Blairgowrie from the Mitchelland stud. He has settled the mares there, I expected him not to want to leave them but he was a good boy as usual and practically ran up the ramp! He has settled back in at home as though he has never been away, must be glad of the rest.

It was the NPS area 4 show at Harrogate on bank holiday monday. We took Drumochter and he was entered in the highland stallions over 3 class, He got 2nd to Stuart Roberts and Jodie Faircloughs stallion Odhran of Langley. Then in the championship he got reserve to Odrhan. Really pleased with this result.

19th August

Congratulations and well done to Pauline and Emma Billington for qualifying their pony Valerock Celtic Blue for HOYS today at Staffs Country Festival. I can't wait to go and see him at HOYS, he is only 5 and totally home produced, there is a photo of him on the ponies out and about page.

14th August

Drumochter was 3rd at the Malvern highland pony show, he was really well behaved, not getting exited over the girls this time, which was a relief!
We cut our hay last week, just got four days of constant dry weather. I thought we would never get it done. At least we have got the ponies winter feed now.
I went to visit Linda and Anna at the weekend they have Harebelle of Combebank and she has a colt foal at foot by North Wells Summit. He is lovely.
Finally I have got some up to date photo's of my fillies, everytime I try to take a shot they have to shove their faces in the camera. I have added some piccies of some of the ponies too.

24th July

There isn't much news to report with most of the shows I have entered being cancelled due to adverse weather. Drumochter got a 2nd at the Great Yorkshire show, and the weather was pretty kind that day too. Our fields are holding up reasonably well considering all the rain we have had. The mares and foals have been coming into the stables during the day to have a bit of respite from the torrents, they love it! Just difficult getting them down the lane again in the evening, trying to shove an unwilling, well grown foal isn't that easy. Hopefully we will get to Malvern for the Highland pony show the weekend after next.

8th July

Blairgowrie has gone on his summer holiday's to the lake district. It's sort of a busman's holiday, now that he has finished his stud duties here, he has gone to serve 3 mares at Jane and Stuart Higham's at the Mitchelland stud. Blair has got two fillies on the ground there out of Rowena of Allendale and her daughter Rhondda of Mitchelland. They have also got one of Summit's daughters Eilean Darach, she is full sister to our young stallion Drumochter. Piccies added of the foals and Eilean.

4th July

Should have been at the Royal Show today but sadly Drumochter had picked up the virus from the Royal Highland, He is fine now been on anti-biotics for a week but I just didn't want to risk passing it on to others. Luckily he is stabled away from all my ponies and his paddock is seperate too. So he hasn't passed it to any of the others. Still there is the Great Yorkshire next week, all being well!

26th June

Just back from the Royal Highland Show. We took Strathleven Drumochter for the 2 and 3 year old stallion class, he got 2nd place, which I was really pleased with, he was well behaved just a little exited in his class. The weather wasn't too kind mainly rain, but we still had a brilliant 4 days. We will be off to The Royal show next week with the stallion.

The week before the Highland show, we went to Wales to pick up Valerock Sweet Briar (Ruby) she is now back here with us. More info about Ruby on my out and about page.

28th May

We have finally got to our first show of the season, the last time we went out the lorry wouldn't start and has been out of action for a while. It was the N.P.S. area 5 northwest championship show at Myerscough College. We took Strathleven Drumochter in the fells, highlands and dales youngstock class and he was 1st and got reserve champion. I am really thrilled with this result and Drum was a good boy, despite now knowing he is a stallion. He was rather partial to the lovely highland mare that was champion!
I have added a photo from the show.

18th May

We have had our young colt Strathleven Drumochter
vetted today for his stallion license. He passed with flying colours, poor soul had to be lunged to canter on both reins, which may I add I didn't know I had to do. Obviously he had never been lunged before and I had to do it in a small paddock which we use for the cows and the grass was knee deep. He thought it was great being able to eat such lush grass, but he was in for a shock when I had to get the lunge whip up his backside and send him on to canter. In usual Drumochter style he did it, even though I broke his heart by having to use the whip. He has forgiven me since with a few carrots and treats.

16th May

Another filly foal arrived safe and well this morning. She is by North wells Summit out of Oldhams wood Miss Molly. Molly was 8 days overdue
had me on foal watch every night, I am exausted!
Still well worth the wait she is a huge filly and looks as though she will be a yellow dun.

12th May

I have had a really nice suprise this morning finding Hobcroft Blossom with a filly foal in the field. She was not due for another week and showed none of the typical signs of foaling the night before. It was raining very hard and the foal was soaking wet, but she was suckling. So we managed to get them into the stable to warm her up. She is sired by North wells Summit and is a very strong filly. Absolutely thrilled to bits with her.

13th April

Blairgowrie of Whitefield has had his first offspring of the year, a filly out of Moss Side Mornish. She was born on the 10th and bred by Pauline Billington. We went to have a look at her on friday, she is gorgeous and looks as though she will be a yellow dun, she is very strong and has plenty of bone. Here is a photo of her.

23rd March

Spring seems to have finally arrived and the horrible mud is drying up. All the ponies have wintered well and Molly,Blossom and Violet are looking big in foal now. Molly and Blossom are due at the beginning of May and Violet in July.
I can't wait for the new arrivals! We have had a busy week with a couple of visiting mares coming to Summit. They were both in season and have now been served and will be going home at the weekend. We are hoping to get to some spring shows with the youngsters, if I can get the fillies to keep all four feet on the ground!

Have been out with my camera in the sunshine and took a lovely photo of Drumochter. Really pleased with how he is maturing, he is the image of his father and he has such a lovely temperement.

4th February

We have been to the Combebank stud today to pick up our new filly Peggy of Combebank. I really liked her when we went to the stud to buy Bryony so we had to buy her too! She was very good and loaded and travelled well. We put her in the stable next to Glen our stallion, he loves babies and she soon settled. It is like she has alway's been here. Here is a photo of Peggy.

3rd February

Angus has left this morning to go to his new home in Westhoughton, not too far away from here. It is alway's sad when one of my babies leaves. We will all miss him. He has got a great home with Pauline and Linda, they have quite a collection of Highland ponies between them. He was a little angel and loaded onto the trailer without any fuss.

January 2007

It has been a very busy month with Paul and I
deciding to get married, we had three weeks to
arrange everything and we managed it. We got married on the 20th of January. I have been asked to put a photo of the wedding on here. So reluctantly I will, I'm not used to seeing photo's of myself only ponies and dogs!

Valerock Angus was gelded a few days ago, ready
to go to his new home with Pauline Billington and Linda Berry. They are also going to buy Valerock Tiger Moth, so the boys will be able to have a play mate.

I have had a lovely email from Helen Coye who owns Valerock Silver Shadow, he is a part-bred by
North-wells Summit out of a thouroughbred mare.
He is a super horse and doing well with his jumping. I have added a photo and info on him on
my ponies out and about page.

4th December

We went to the lakes today to pick up Blairgowrie
from the Mitchelland stud, where he has been running with a few mares. The weather was horrid
with gusts of wind that felt like 100 miles an hour! The lorry was almost being tipped over on the motorway. Anyway we all arrived home none the worse for our ordeal. Blairgowrie didn't bat an eyelid and calmly munched his way through his
net, typical highland fashion. I braved the wind and rain and had to walk Blair up to the top field, which I may add is extremely high up, where his wives where waiting for him. They told him off for being away for so long, but still followed him up the hill. All is settled in the winter fields, we still have plenty of grass for the time of year.

30th November

Today I decided that I must wean the foals, well
Kyla and Angus now that they are 7 months old. They took it in their stride and were calm and
happily munching their hay. (great not having to share with mum!) Blossom was upset at loosing Angus but Molly didn't even look back. Lewis will stay with Violet until the new year because he was a much later foal. All the other ponies have now gone onto their winter grazing and are doing well. Violet and Lewis are stabled at night because Violet hates the bad weather. With her being 20 and in foal again I like to pamper her, and she loves being pampered!

31st October.

28th October.
H.P.E.C. show (pennine) today. We took our 2 year
old colt Drumochter, he won the 1 & 2 year old
class and was reserve champion in hand. Really
pleased with him, considering the day before he
was a mud monster out in the field! We had a great time catching up with other enthusiasts.
A really good turn out of highlands at the show,
with well filled classes and a great standard of
ponies.

7th October 2006.
Today we went baby visiting in the lakes. Had
a lovely afternoon at Mitchelland farm, Crook, Nr Kendal. Blairgowrie is there to serve Jane and Stewart Higham's mares. We also wanted to see
Blairs filly foal out of Rowena of Allendale. She
was lovely, and very friendly.

the brood mare and foal class. What a lovely
show. Great to see all the highlands together.
Molly got 3rd and Kyla was 1st in the foal class. Really pleased with them both.
